What You'll Learn in SELF-ERECTING TOWER CRANE OPERATION (CPCCLTC4002)
Delivered in partnership with Halo Nation Training Pty Ltd (RTO 32485)
SITE PLANNING AND CRANE SETUP
Learn how to prepare a job site for self-erector use. This includes ground condition assessment, identifying hazards, checking for overhead obstructions, and selecting a safe location for crane deployment.
You'll also cover setup sequences: boom unfolding, outriggers, ballast, and power supply—ensuring each lift starts with a stable, compliant platform.
INSPECTION, TESTING AND FAULT IDENTIFICATION
You’ll carry out pre-start inspections on the crane and associated gear, checking for wear, mechanical faults, and compliance with safety standards. You'll also learn how to report issues, isolate unsafe components, and ensure operational readiness each day.
OPERATING THE CRANE UNDER VARIED CONDITIONS
We’ll train you to operate the crane through typical onsite tasks—lifting pallets, placing structural components, managing variable loads—all while considering boom radius, load swing, wind effects, and communication protocols.
Expect to become fluent with the control system and safety features including load moment indicators, anti-collision systems, and emergency overrides.
COMMUNICATION DURING LIFTING OPERATIONS
Safe operation depends on teamwork. You’ll learn to issue and respond to hand signals and radio commands, maintain visual contact where possible, and manage blind lifts with coordinated communication between doggers, riggers, and ground personnel.
LOAD STABILITY AND MANAGEMENT
You’ll learn how to identify the centre of gravity of loads, use lifting points effectively, minimise pendulum effect, and prevent overloading. We’ll teach you how to make safety-critical decisions about lifting angles, slings, and lift sequencing..
COMPLETING LIFT PLANS AND SITE DOCUMENTATION
From pre-lift briefs and logbooks to hazard reports and compliance paperwork—you’ll learn how to fill out documents that ensure traceability, legality, and accountability in crane operations.
WORKING AT HEIGHTS SAFELY
Even self-erecting cranes involve height risks. You’ll cover fall prevention systems, exclusion zone protocols, and emergency rescue procedures. We ensure you understand both your responsibilities and your rights when working at elevation.
